During the past two decades the legality of online gambling has changed dramatically. As a result the United States Online Gambling industry is now regulated and a highly regulated industry it is. Generally speaking, the legality of online gambling is determined by state law. However, in certain cases, a local jurisdiction may prohibit gambling in the local area.

While the legality of online gambling varies from state to state, a few states have passed legislation in favor of legalizing online gambling. Those laws usually allow for gambling on casinos and other types of licensed gambling establishments. Others have limited gambling to riverboats or other land-based locations.

Regulations

Having a unified law for online gaming is important as it will help to regulate the industry and also lead to technological improvement. Several countries around the world have issued rules for regulating the online gaming industry.

The Indian government has established an Interministerial Task Force to explore new regulations for online gaming. The Task Force has pointed out inconsistencies in the state laws that govern online gaming and recommends central legislation to govern the industry.

The task force will also investigate the possibility of regulating online gambling sports. The authority will also look into the Foreign Exchange Management Act, which prohibits unauthorized payment systems for online gaming. It will also recommend a uniform player safety standard for online gaming platforms.
